Rameybasketball.com & Demetrious Johnson Charitable Foundation presents the 2nd Annual Cricket Wireless  Midwest Showdown High School Basketball Shootout held on December 13, 2008 at Viking Hall on the campus of Normandy High School. Viking Hall is considered one of the premeir high school facilities in the St. Louis area. This years event will feature 16 teams competing in 8 games including top teams from: MO, IN, TN, & IL. Click on team for team bio.

Career Academy’s was led by the guard tadem of Ciara Leak (18 points) and Rashonda Willis (15 points). Manassas was led by senior Kimberly Watkins (13 points) in a game that the Phoenix led from start to finish.

Senior guard Manual Crossland led Wellston with 18 points and 6’5 super sophomore Ben McLemore had a big game with (14 points & 13 rebounds). Decatur was led by junior Kendall Kennison (14 points & 8 rebounds) & senior Monty Wilson (15 points & 9 rebounds)

Harrisburg put up a good fight against Providence St. Mel but came up short. St. Mel was led by 6’9 junior Phillip Jackson (24 points, 18 rebounds, and 5 blocks) and also got a big game from 6’6 junior Mark Mack (18 points and 7 rebounds). Harrisburg was led by senior Mason Hardin (16 points & 10 rebounds).

Kendal Brown will be a star when he arrives at Southern Illinois-Carbondale next year, Brown delighted the St. Louis crowd with incredible speed, athleticism, and passing ability on his way to wowing (20 points, 9 assists, and 4 steals). Parkway South was led by 5’10 senior Ben Hoener who struggled with 11 points and 12 turnovers in the defeat.

One of the more exciting and thrilling games of the day saw Alabama signee Cully Payne lead his team to a double overtime victory over a very game Howell team. What made this game thrilling was the two shots heard around Viking Hall. Payne attempted a go ahead three pointer that got blocked out of bounds leaving .2 seconds on the clock. With Schaumburg down by 2 a perfectly drawn side out of bounds play was converted by Payne with a tip in at the buzzer sending the game into overtime and the crowd into a frenzy. Not to be outdone Payne again delivered more dramatics with a 30 foot three pointer at the buzzer to send the game into a second overtime before Schaumburg held on to a three point victory. Payne finished with 39 points on 16/30 shooting including 4/14 from three. Howell was led by seniors Cody Sorenson 32 points & 7 rebounds & Camron Cathcart 31 points and 6 rebounds.

Mississippi signee Reginald Buckner of Manassas put on a display of his unique talents as the 6-9 senior was close to a triple-double with 11 points, nine rebounds and nine blocked shots. Shaq Walker led Manassas with 18 points. Whitfield junior swingman Julian Johnson had 21 points and 11 rebounds. Johnson delivered one of the plays of the day that didn’t count as he drove the wing and finished with a big time dunk over Buckner but was called for the charge. Buckner not fazed answered two plays later with a thunderous two handed and one dunk over Johnson and another Whitfield defender that rocked the crowd out of their seats.

Down by 17 points with only 5 minutes to play in the fourth quarter, McCluer didn’t give up and chipped, chipped, and chipped away at the lead and forced the game into overtime where they dominated to score the big come from behind win. Sophomore guard Shaquille Boga turned in one of his best performances with 31 points, 9 assists, 7 rebounds, and 5 steals. Boga went 4/6 from three. Older brother and UW-Milwaukee signee Lonnie Boga finished with 28 points and 14 rebounds. Senior guard Jerrel Partlow also came up big with 21 points. Playing without heavily recruited top 100 junior guard Mike McCall (sprained ankle) and 6’7 junior Eddie Denard (broken foot) Foreman got a big game from 6’3 junior Tommie Woolridge 31 points on 6/8 from three point area. Top 100 junior guard Lavonte Dority finished with 17 points in a game that Foreman seemed to be in control of.

The Flyers overcame a 20-point deficit in the second half to win by one point after senior forward Ramone Rios scored on a putback in the final seconds. East St. Louis sophomore Keonte Minor had 19 points and 11 rebounds, while teammate Durand Sain scored 18. Junior Aaron Smith led Normandy with 23 points, including four 3-pointers, and nine rebounds.
